What is OCD?

OCD is an anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive, repetitive thoughts (obsessions) and the urge to perform repetitive behaviours (compulsions) to try to neutralise the fearful, obsessional thoughts. The compulsions give temporary relief from anxiety, but the anxiety and the obsession soon returns, often with more intensity. Some people have obsessional thoughts, which gives them a lot of anxiety and torment, without obvious external compulsive behaviours.

OCD thoughts and behaviours can be very time consuming and interfere with the person’s daily activities, relationships, and general well-being.

Symptoms of OCD

The anxious state combined with obsessional thoughts and compulsive behaviours are the symptoms of OCD, and these can be experienced and expressed in a multitude and forms and variations. Because people who have OCD are usually in a highly anxious state, they can also be experiencing many symptoms of anxiety or generalised anxiety disorder.

Effective OCD treatment

Through my holistic, integrated approach, tailored to you, I address the issues that underlie your anxiety and the fear that fuel’s your OCD. I also use and provide you with effective strategies to disrupt and be less reactive to your obsessive thoughts, and much more easily be able to resist the compulsions so that the thoughts and compulsions no longer have power over you.

You may have tried CBT and exposure and response prevention (ERP), and although they can be effective to some extent for some people, they can be very tough and unpleasant, and it can be a very long process. The techniques that I use are much gentler and are more effective at helping you to get rapid and lasting relief, helping you to be free from OCD. Although it may still involve a form of exposure, it is much more pleasant, comfortable, and effective for quick and lasting relief.

I use combination of techniques, including hypnotherapy, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), for empowering results.

I also give you a range of tools techniques to help yourself too, so that you will have your own way of helping yourself to be calm and in control, to learn to be free from OCD.

Types of OCD

Although there are infinite forms of OCD, there are five main categories, with themes often overlapping between categories.

  • Repetitively checking
  • Fear of contamination / Mental Contamination
  • Symmetry and ordering
  • Anxiety provoking Intrusive Thoughts and ruminations

Hypnotherapy for OCD

In combination with other techniques that I use, hypnotherapy for OCD can help you to reduce to your level of reactivity to obsessive thoughts and reduce anxiety, as well as help with many other aspects. Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool for accessing the subconscious mind. By guiding you into a state of deep relaxation, we can work together to reframe negative thought patterns, form new healthy neuro pathways and patterns of thinking and responding to situations that you find yourself in. Using hypnotherapy processes we can also boost your self-esteem, cultivate a state of inner calm, and confidence in managing thoughts and compulsions.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) for OCD

EFT, also known as tapping, is a highly effective way of releasing negative emotions and the fears that fuel your OCD. By tapping on specific meridian points while focusing on the specific issue at hand, you can experience rapid relief from anxiety, stress, and other emotional challenges. This can also help you to reduce your anxiety around your thoughts, helping you to feel more comfortable with them, and making it much easier to resist the compulsions and start to form new ways of responding to triggers.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) for OCD

NLP for OCD is effective in many ways. We can use various practical strategies and techniques to guide you in changing negative thought processes and behaviours. I can help you to identify and challenge limiting beliefs that underlie your fears, reframe negative thoughts, and create new, empowering patterns of behaviour. I can help you to change your leaned fearful response to particular triggers, and create more helpful and empowering ways to respond instead.

A compulsion is a learned response to a particular trigger, and I can guide you to teach your brain to break the circuitry and create a more helpful response to the trigger instead.
